FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a personal decision for every individual. Often individuals seek out a therapist when they are experiencing difficulties with their current life circumstances and are looking for change. I have experience helping youth and adults experiencing anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, depression, life transitions, or relationship challenges. I also help clients who feel stuck in current patterns they don’t fully understand but want to change. You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting!

How does psychotherapy work?

Psychotherapy works by helping people to understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and how they impact one another and influence their life. As you continue with regular conversations with your trained psychotherapist, you will be able to identify what is keeping you stuck and discover and develop new ways of thinking, feeling, and responding. Over time, this can lead to meaningful and lasting change.

Can I speak to you for more information?

As part of the process, you are welcome to contact me for a free 15-minute consultation where we can get a vibe check, discuss any questions you might have about my expertise, my practice, and ways that we will work together. Email me at counsellingwithdl@gmail.com to book a free consultation!

What can I expect during my first appointment?

Our first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask some questions about what’s bringing you in, your history and context, your relationships, and what you’re hoping for in terms of a goal.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

Every individual takes a different amount of time in therapy. Some come in for a few sessions to work on a very specific issue, while others stay longer for deeper work. As we progress, we will regularly check in on your goals and progress to decide what would work best for you.

How often do we meet?

As we start, most clients will start with weekly sessions. As things progress, we can adjust the frequency of our meetings based on your needs and goals.

What are your fees? Are you covered by my insurance?

$160 per session. You will need to check your provider to see that your insurance plan covers services provided by a Registered Social Worker. Ando does not do direct billing. Instead we will send you a receipt once we have received your payment and you will submit a claim to your insurance directly.

What modalities do you specialize in?

I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT).

Do you provide virtual sessions?

Yes, I provide secure virtual sessions.

Do you provide in-person appointments?
